Visa and Entry Information

AVSS 2027 participants are responsible for checking the entry requirements that apply to their own passport or travel document before travelling to Macau SAR. The information below is provided as a general planning guide and should be verified against the official Macao SAR Government information before departure.

Entry policies can change with short notice. Participants are strongly encouraged to review the official information at least four weeks before travel and again shortly before departure.
01

Visa-Exempt Entry

Macau SAR provides visa or entry-permit exemption to nationals of many countries and regions for short tourism or business visits. The permitted length of stay depends on the passport or travel document and may vary, for example, between 14 days, 30 days, 90 days, 180 days, or a longer period for specific document holders.

Common examples in conference planning materials include many European countries, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Brazil, Israel, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, and South Africa. Participants should always verify the exact rule for their own passport or travel document.

02

Entry Permit on Arrival

For many travelers who are not covered by visa-exempt entry, an entry permit, also commonly described as visa upon arrival, may be available at Macau SAR immigration checkpoints, subject to official rules and immigration approval.

This option is generally intended for short visits such as tourism, business travel, or conference attendance. Participants who need to stay longer, work, or undertake activities beyond ordinary conference participation should apply for the appropriate permission in advance.

03

Visa Required Before Arrival

According to the official Macao SAR Government information, nationals of the following countries are required to obtain a Macao visa before arrival and cannot apply for an entry permit on arrival:

  • Bangladesh
  • Nepal
  • Nigeria
  • Pakistan
  • Sri Lanka
  • Vietnam

Authors, speakers, and attendees from these countries should begin the visa process early and allow sufficient time before travelling.

Notes for Mainland China Residents

Travel from Mainland China to Macau SAR is normally not handled as a standard visa process. Mainland China residents usually need an Exit-Entry Permit for Travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macao and a valid endorsement, such as an individual travel or business endorsement.
